This is the image for the news article titled Coronavirus UpdateTo ensure that Foothills remains responsive to public health needs, we wanted to assure Foothills staff that we are in communication with the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) to monitor regular updates concerning the progression of COVID-19 (coronavirus).

The DPH, along with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) have a thorough, written plan for community preparation. Their goal is to monitor and quickly identify any potential cases of COVID-19 in Georgia and act promptly to protect the general public.

Foothills is monitoring these agency recommendations, reviewing the GaDOE Plan for Pandemic Preparedness, and taking appropriate precautions to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of students and staff.  As a reminder, GaDOE clarifies that "an epidemic is a disease that temporarily is prevalent in a community or throughout a large area. A pandemic is a global outbreak." At this time the CDC states that the overall risk to the general public is low.

We would encourage you to continue general disease prevention measures by:
Thoroughly washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use hand sanitizer if you are unable to wash your hands;
Avoiding touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands;
Coughing or sneezing into your elbow or tissue, then throw the tissue into the trash and sanitize your hands;
Disinfecting surfaces that are touched frequently; and
Encouraging our students to practice these same good habits!

As always, we are thankful for you and all that you do to keep our students learning in a safe and healthy environment.
